\"Akira\"<\/a>Well, here’s a story of a project that has stalled out in Developmen Hell that I won’t shed any tears over.<\/p>\n

The live action-version of Katsuhiro Otomo’s classic anime feature Akira<\/strong> being developed by Leonard Di Caprio’s Appian Way production company And Warner Brothers is dead. The screenplay for the new version written by Gary Whitta would have transplanted Otomo’s tale of a teenage biker whose latent telepathic powers are released by government experimentation in a post-nuclear war, rebuilt Tokyo to Manhattan. Animation director Ruairi Robinson was set to make his feature film debut with the adaptation. Appian Way hoped to break the story into two films, the first of which was originally hoped to open this summer.<\/p>\n
