This time the film is Extinction, a thriller which Universal produced starring Lizzy Caplan and Michael Pena.

This is the second acquisition that Netflix has recently made. Previously, the streaming service grabbed The Cloverfield Paradox from Paramount and surprise premiered it after the Super Bowl last weekend. The move generated some initial, but short-lived, excitement. Reviews for the film were not kind.

According to The Wrap, Extinction tells the story of —

[A] man who has a recurring dream of losing his family — and this nightmare turns into reality when the planet is invaded by a destructive force.

Extinction was originally on Universal’s release schedule for a January 26 debut before being pulled off completely two months ago. With that kind of history plus its acquisition paralleling the poorly received The Cloverfield Paradox, it does raise questions over the quality of this film and if Netflix is quickly becoming a dumping ground for films that studios have lost faith in. And if that is the case, how quickly will Netflix subscribers start tuning out these films.

Extinction should premiere on Netflix at some point later this year.

The streaming service giant has picked up another film being cast off by its studio.

[click for more]

[84
8914,5659

0":"post-42846","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-news","8":"tag-extinction","9":"tag-michael-pena
["GET
