This summer’s upcoming X-Files<\/strong> film, a sequel to the long-running TV series as well as the 1998 spin-off feature film, finally has a title.<\/p>\n

X-Files: I Want To Believe<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Although franchise creator Chris Carter had stated last month that he and studio 20th Century Fox were in disagreement over what the movie should be called, it appears that they\u2019ve settled their differences earlier today, with Carter making the announcement to the Associated Press.<\/p>\n

It’s a natural title\u2026It’s a story that involves the difficulties in mediating faith and science. ‘I Want to Believe.’ It really does suggest Mulder’s struggle with his faith.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Fans of the series will remember that “I Want To Believe” is what was written on a poster in FBI Agent Fox Maulder’s office. I rattier version of the poster can be seen in background of the recently released photograph from the upcoming film of actor David Duchovny above. (Click to enlarge)<\/p>\n

Carter also reiterated that the film will be a stand alone adventure that does not rely on the television series\u2019 10 years of Byzantine plotting of alien invasions and government conspiracies.<\/p>\n

It has struck me over the last several years talking to college-age kids that a lot of them really don’t know the show or haven’t seen it\u2026 If you’re 20 years old now, the show started when you were 4. It was probably too scary for you or your parents wouldn’t let you watch it. So there’s a whole new audience that might have liked the show. This was made to, I would call it, satisfy everyone.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Honestly, I am a bit surprised that Carter did not hold off until the end of the week when he and his producing partner Frank Spotnitz will be appearing at the New York Comic Con to promote the film. A room full of rapid fans seems more like the place to make such an announcement.<\/p>\n
