It’s time for cardio, as it looks like we may heading back to Zombieland.<\/p>\n

Screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick dropped some broad hints to Vulture<\/a> that a sequel to their 2009 comedic zombie film starring Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin may be in theaters in time to celebrate the original’s tenth anniversary.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re going on the tenth anniversary of Zombieland,\u201d Wernick tells Vulture. \u201cZombieland came out October of 2009. We don\u2019t know what you get someone for their tenth anniversary, but it may be a Zombieland 2.\u201d Though he hedged with that \u201cmay be,\u201d it seems like it\u2019s not so far from a \u201cwill be.\u201d \u201cThe hope is that we\u2019re shooting that thing early 2019 for an October of \u201919 release,\u201d Wernick added \u2014 then tossed in even more good news for devotees: \u201cWith the original cast, by the way.\u201d<\/p>\n

They were mum beyond that, and say they have details they can\u2019t give out just yet, but that it\u2019s all positive. \u201cWe are sitting on information that we can\u2019t entirely share at this moment,\u201d Wernick added, \u201cbut we can just say we think fans of Zombieland who have been hoping for a Zombieland 2, that we will grant their wish very, very soon.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

If true, we should start seeing more news as the year continues. <\/p>\n

It is important to note that we have been down this road to a potential Zombieland<\/strong> sequel before. Right after the first film came out, everyone, including stars Woody Harrelson and Jesse Eisenberg, seemed very excited about a followup film. But that excitement seemed to wane by 2011. It was around that time too, that a planned TV series for CBS was first discussed, but never materialized. Another series attempt was made by Amazon in 2013, but not enough Amazon subscribers voted for the series to go forward.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Reese and Wernick still have plenty of other things to keep them busy ifthis new attempt falls through. Currently, they\u2019re working on Michael Bay\u2019s Six Underground<\/strong> and the new adaption of the boardgame Clue<\/strong>. They are still listed as producers on Cowboy Ninja Viking<\/strong> starring Chris Pratt, though reports suggest that most of their original script has been rewritten.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
