And it appears that Tom Holland&#8217;s Spider-Man will be facing off against Jake Gyllenhaal&#8217;s Mysterio in the film.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/deadline.com\/2018\/05\/jake-gyllenhaal-mysterio-spider-man-homecoming-sequel-1202395167\/\">Deadline<\/a> has the exclusive that Gyllenhaal is in talks to take over the role in the upcoming film. This is a little bit ironic because as you may remember\u00a0 that back in the early 2000&#8217;s, during Tobey Maguire&#8217;s stand-off with Sony, Gyllenhaal was in line to take over for him as Spider-Man in the Raimi\u00a0<strong>Spider-Man\u00a0<\/strong>films. Gyllenhaal was also rumored to be considered for taking over the role of Batman from Ben Affleck. Glad to see Jake finally get a role in a superhero film.<\/p>\n<p>Many characters have operated under the name Mysterio in the Spider-Man comic books, but the main one was an ex-stuntman and special effects artist named Quentin Beck. First appearing in\u00a0<em>Amazing Spider-Man\u00a0<\/em>#14 in 1964, Beck discovered that he could use the skills he learned in Hollywood to become a supervillain. He creates illusions by a variety of means&#8211;hypnosis, mechanical effects, and hallucinogenic drugs&#8211;and uses these illusions to distract law enforcement while he commits his crimes.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbr.com\/sony-kraven-mysterio-spider-man\/\">Back in 2017<\/a>, it was announced that Mysterio was being considered for a stand-alone, spinoff film of his very own. If that is true, we might be seeing more of Gyllenhaal as the character than in more than just one film.
