Even though the all-female Ghostbusters<\/strong> reboot was met with, at best, mixed reviews, Dan Aykroyd would like to try rebooting another one of his iconic creations with an all female lead cast.<\/p>\n

Speaking with EW Canada, Aykroyd stated that he would like to reboot the Blues Brothers, the singing act he created with friend and Saturday Night Live<\/em> co-star John Belushi and who headlined the 1980 John Landis-directed action-comedy-musical of the same name, but with two women sliding on the trademark sunglasses amd pork pie hats.<\/p>\n

And he already has two people in mind to take the reigns.<\/p>\n

I like Lupita Nyong\u2019o, and I like Taylor Swift. She\u2019s got all the chops. She can sing, she can burn down guitar.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

As for whether this will be a complete reboot, starting fresh the way the recent Ghostbusters<\/strong> remake did or if the film will be handed off to them by the original cast, Aykroyd states it will be the latter.<\/p>\n

In this movie, these ladies inherit the franchise from Elwood. You know, they get the Bluesmobile. They get to drive the Bluesmobile, they get to fight the Klan and the Nazis \u2014 it\u2019s really neat.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Aykroyd didn’t elaborate further on the project so we have no idea if this is just a pie-in-the-sky idea he has, if he has been talking to Universal Studios – the makers of the original Blues Brothers<\/strong> films – or if even a script has been written.<\/p>\n

Honestly, I think an all-female Blues Brothers (Blues Sisters?) movie feels like an idea that is more organically open to the gender-bending casting. There are a number of great women blues, rhythm and blues and soul singers from the 1940s through the 1960s whose work could be showcased in a potential film in the same way that male musicians of that time period had their songs highlighted in the two Blues Brothers films.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
