Disney is not a studio to let diminishing returns or fan anger dissuade them from keeping the\u00a0Star Wars\u00a0<\/strong>money train rolling. Now, before\u00a0Solo: A Star Wars Story\u00a0<\/strong>is even formally released, we get news that a rumored film starring one of Han Solo’s adversaries is definitely in the works.<\/p>\n

The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision<\/a> blog is saying that\u00a0Logan\u00a0<\/strong>director James Mangold will be co-writing and directing a\u00a0Boba Fett\u00a0<\/strong>film. Mangold will be co-writing the film with his\u00a0Logan<\/strong> producer Simon Kinberg.<\/p>\n

Boba Fett is the Mandalorian bounty hunter who collected Han Solo from Darth Vader in\u00a0Empire Strikes Back\u00a0<\/strong>and delivered him to Jabba the Hutt. He meets his supposed untimely end in the opening minutes of Return of the Jedi<\/strong>, but his “origin” was a plot point in the prequel trilogy.<\/p>\n

Casual fans might be confused by the inexplicable popularity of a character that experienced only a limited screen time and only a few lines of dialogue in the franchise, but most of Fett’s characterization happened in the tie-in novels and cartoons that appeared before Disney bought out Lucasfilms. Most of that continuity was thrown out when Disney took over, so I don’t know if the character fans came to know and love will still be the same one that they remember.<\/p>\n

Lucasfilm has been wanting to get a Boba Fett solo film moving for some time. Initially, director Josh Trank was attached to the project, but was dropped after reports surfaced of out-of-control behavior during the filming of 2015’s Fantastic Four<\/strong> and the poor reception that film received. Meanwhile, the studio has been developing a number of other projects for release after the final installment of the current main saga trilogy, Episode IX<\/strong>, is released in December 2019. They are also developing a solo movie featuring Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi with director Stephen Daldry rumored to be directing as well as two new trilogies of films – one from The Last Jedi<\/strong> director Rian Johnson and one from Game Of Thrones<\/em> creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.<\/p>\n

There is no release date mentioned for the film as of yet, but we will update you if one is set.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
