Warner Brothers have paired writers David Bar Katz and Todd Stashwick with director Gavin O’Connor to work on the screenplay for Suicide Squad 2<\/strong>. The pair will be replacing Legend of Tarzan<\/strong>‘s Adam Cozad who had been working on the script with O’Connor.<\/p>\n

The 2016 original starred Will Smith and Margot Robbie as two members of a squad of super-villians who are forced by the government to take dangerous black ops missions in order to reduce time on their sentences. O’Connor took over<\/a> directorial reigns for the project from original director David Ayer, who had moved on to develop another DC Comics Extended Universe film for the studio, Gotham City Sirens<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Katz first came onto the Hollywood radar when his script The Man In The Rockefeller Suit<\/strong> landed on the 2014 Black List. Since then he has had a number of projects in development including the Robert Dwney Jr feature Chasing Phil<\/strong>. He has also done a rewrite on New Line’s Spawn<\/strong>, which is currently gearing up for production later this year. Stashwick already has some experience with DC Comics villains having written for the Fox Network’s Batman prequel series Gotham<\/em>.<\/p>\n

While most of Warners future plans for their DC Extended Universe franchise seem to be up in the air, it is a good bet that a Suicide Squad<\/strong> sequel will happen. The film did not do well with critics but it did make $746.8 million worldwide, so it is easy to see why a follow up would be wanted. Currently, though, the studio also has various projects featuring Robbie’s Harley Quinn and various iterations of the classic villain the Joker – who appeared in Suicide Squad portrayed by Jared Leto – so there are a number of possibilities that the studio has to choose from when looking to move forward.<\/p>\n
