Never said that the Academy was never willing to give a little more thought to a poorly thought out idea.<\/p>\n

The Academy stated today that their proposed award honoring the best popular film will not be given out during the 2019 awards ceremony.<\/p>\n

Academy CEO Dawn Hudson had this to say<\/a> about the delay:<\/p>\n

\u201cThere has been a wide range of reactions to the introduction of a new award, and we recognize the need for further discussion with our members. We have made changes to the Oscars over the years \u2014 including this year \u2014 and we will continue to evolve while also respecting the incredible legacy of the last 90 years.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The wide range of reactions leaned to the negative on this one. When Rob Lowe, the main component of the worst idea in Academy Awards history, comes out and says the change is a bad idea, it’s a bad idea.<\/p>\n

Like I said when the rule change was announced<\/a>, if they were serious about honoring popular movies, they’d open up the Best Picture category to include even more of them. Creating a whole new category, especially when time is a concern, is silly.<\/p>\n
