For five years, The Purge <\/strong>franchise has been delivering political and social commentary mixed in with dystopian horror that seemed to be in a race to stay ahead of real world events. But all things must come to an end, and The Purge<\/strong>‘s end time might be soon in coming.<\/p>\n

Franchise creator James DeMonaco spoke with Entertainment Weekly<\/a> and the writer of and\/director of three films in the franchise says he has an idea for the next film that will end the franchise:<\/p>\n

\u201cI have it in my head. I think I\u2019m going to write it. I think it\u2019s a great way to end it all. We want to end it all, I think, in this one, and I\u2019m very excited. When I came up with the idea and pitched it to everybody, they seemed psyched, and I think it will be a really cool ending, how we take this one home.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

For those of you are not familiar with the franchise, it takes place in an alternate reality where in 2014, a totalitarian government took power and instituted “The Purge,” a 12-hour span of time in March where all crime, including murder, is legal. The policy results in the crime and unemployment rates dropping to 1%, but the violence becomes aimed at the poor and working class as a way to keep their numbers under control.<\/p>\n

The final film will most likely take place after the third film in the series, 2016’s The Purge: Election Night <\/strong>(This year’s The First Purge <\/strong>was a prequel that showed how the program started). Election Night <\/strong>ended by turning the concept around in a new direction, one that could very well lead to a grim and violent ending.<\/p>\n
