Oliver (@TracyYOliver) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TracyYOliver\/status\/1055578803047751680?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 25, 2018<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The original <strong>Clueless <\/strong>was an updating of Jane Austen&#8217;s 1815 novel <em>Emma<\/em> to the then present day Beverly Hills. Alicia Silverstone played Cher, a vapid yet well meaning rich girl who makes it her business to act as matchmaker for her classmates. It also starred Stacy Dash, Paul Rudd and the late Brittany Murphy.<\/p>\n<p>The film has become a cult favorite over the years and has spawned a TV sitcom that ran for three years on two networks, a series of young adult novels and was paid homage to in Iggy Azalea&#8217;s video for her song, <em>Fancy.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The film has also been adapted into a musical, opening in previews on November 20, 2018 at the Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theater in The Pershing Square Signature Center. Previews will run until December 10th, then the musical will enter its official run from December 11th to January 13, 2019, when it will close. Dove Cameron will be playing the role of Cher.<\/p>\n<p>Robinson, who is known for her work on TV shows like <em>The New Girl<\/em> and GLOW, has yet to start writing the script. No word on any directorial candidates or planned release date as of yet.<\/p>\n<p>No word as to what Oliver&#8217;s &#8220;New Take&#8221; will entail, but considering both Oliver and Robinson are women of color, we might be getting a more diverse take on the story than the lily-white original.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\">Do we need a CLUELESS remake?
