It\u2019s been two years since the shocking series finale of Showtime\u2019s Penny Dreadful<\/em> but the cable outlet and series creator John Logan are reteaming to explore a new corner of that world with Penny Dreadful: City Of Angels<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The cable outlet is describing the show as a \u201cspiritual descendant\u201d of the original series. As the name suggests, this new chapter will be set in 1938 Los Angeles. Presumably as the original series plumbed gothic horror fiction of the 19th century for character and plots, this new iteration will be drawing on noir-ish pulp fiction of the 1930s as well as the expected supernatural story elements.<\/p>\n

According to the Hollywood Reporter \u2013 <\/p>\n

Showtime describes [the show as] “A time and place deeply infused with Mexican-American folklore and social tension.” Rooted in the conflict between characters connected to the deity Santa Muerte and others allied with the devil, Penny Dreadful: City Of Angels<\/em> will explore a mix of the supernatural and the combustible reality of that period, creating new occult myths and moral dilemmas within a historical backdrop. The series will feature all new characters and storylines.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
