Disney has announced a second live action Star Wars<\/strong> series to join the already in production Star Wars: The Mandalorian<\/em> on the Mouse House’s upcoming streaming service Disney+.<\/p>\n

The untitled series will center on Cassian Andor, the Rebel spy seen in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story<\/strong>, played by Diego Luna. Luna will be returning for the series.<\/p>\n

Given how Rogue One<\/strong> ends, we can safely assume that this series will be a prequel to that Star Wars<\/strong> spinoff film. We’ve some some of the early days of the Rebel Alliance on the animated series Star Wars: Rebels<\/strong>. But if this show matches the tone of Rogue One<\/strong>, than it will be certainly exploring some of the more morally grey areas of war.<\/p>\n

Here’s the complete announcement from Disney and Lucasfilm<\/a> –<\/p>\n

Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger announced today that Lucasfilm is in development on a second Star Wars live-action series for Disney+, the Company\u2019s new direct-to-consumer streaming service. The series, which will go into production next year, follows the adventures of rebel spy Cassian Andor during the formative years of the Rebellion and prior to the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Diego Luna will reprise the role of Andor. \u201cGoing back to the Star Wars universe is very special for me,\u201d said Luna. \u201cI have so many memories of the great work we did together and the relationships I made throughout the journey. We have a fantastic adventure ahead of us, and this new exciting format will give us the chance to explore this character more deeply.\u201d<\/p>\n

The rousing spy thriller will explore tales filled with espionage and daring missions to restore hope to a galaxy in the grip of a ruthless Empire.
