Steven Spielberg’s tale of resurrected dinosaurs gone wild, Jurassic Park<\/strong>, James L. Brooks’s comic story of romance in the newsroom, Broadcast News<\/strong> and Alfred Hitchcock’s thriller Rebecca<\/strong> are among the twenty-five titles that have been added this year to the National Film Registry.<\/p>\n

To be eligible to be added the Library of Congress’s National Film Registry, a film must be considered “culturally, historically or aesthetically significant.” Films added to the Registry are preserved in accordance with the terms of the National Film Preservation Act.<\/p>\n

The National Film Registry enters its 30 year this year, and today’s announcement grows the list of films to 750 titles ranging from early pre-sound silent films all the way through modern blockbusters like Jaws<\/strong> and Star Wars<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In the announcement, Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden stated –<\/p>\n

The National Film registry turns 30 this year and for those three decades, we have been recognizing, celebrating and preserving this distinctive medium. These cinematic treasures must be protected because they document our history, culture, hopes and dreams.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Other films included on the list are Disney’s animated Cinderella<\/strong> (1950), Orson Welles’s noir thriller The Lady From Shanghai<\/strong> (1947) and John M Stahl’s melodrama Leave Her To Heaven<\/strong> (1945).<\/p>\n

The most recent film added to the Registry this year is Ang Lee’s 2005 feature Brokeback Mountain<\/strong>. The oldest film added this year is 1908’s Dixon-Wanamaker Expedition To Crow Agency<\/strong>, which showcases native Americans. Cheyenne and Arapaho tribe member Chris Eyre also makes the list with his 1998 indie drama Smoke Signals<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
