Once upon a time, in 2013, Sony was really optimistic about its Spider-Man <\/strong>license. So much so that it intended expand its recent rebooted Amazing Spider-Man <\/strong>franchise into spin-offs starring Venom <\/strong>and the <\/a>Sinister Six. <\/strong>But then Amazing Spider-Man 2 <\/strong>disappointed with the critics and at the box office, and those spinoffs were presumed dead.<\/p>\n

This year’s Venom <\/strong>film proves that Sony still wanted to make that spin-off, and a recent article in Vanity Fair<\/a> proves that Sinister Six <\/strong>isn’t dead either.<\/p>\n

The article is essentially a victory lap celebrating Sony’s recent successes with its Spider-Man films: their partnership with Marvel, the surprising success of Venom<\/strong>, and the good buzz around Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse<\/strong>. But deep in the article, the topic of Sinister Six <\/strong>comes up. Producer Amy Pascal states that reason why we have yet to see the film is not due to the failure of Amazing Spider-Man 2<\/strong>, but rather due to writer\/director Drew Goddard, who was charged with bringing the concept to the big screen, and his busy schedule:<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m just waiting for Drew to be ready to direct it. I would do anything with Drew Goddard. I\u2019m just waiting for him to tell me he wants to.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

For what it’s worth Goddard didn’t seemed opposed to doing a Sinister Six <\/strong>film when The Hollywood Reporter spoke with him on the publicity tour for Bad Times at the El Royale<\/strong>. However, it still might be a ways away, depending on whether or not his X-Force <\/strong>film survives the Disney\/Fox merger, that film would likely take precedence on Goddard’s schedule.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
