As we all prepare for the finale of the Skywalker Saga in December’s Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker<\/strong>, Disney and Lucasfilm are already looking ahead towards the future of the franchise. Last week the studio plotted out three dates across 2022 and 2026 for future Star Wars<\/strong> installments, and now we know which filmmaker, or in this case filmmakers, will be in charge of creating them.<\/p>\n

Disney CEO Robert Iger revealed at the Disney’s Upfronts presentation today that the next Star Wars<\/strong> film will come from the writing\/producing teal of David Benioff and D. B. Weiss, creators and showrunners of HBO’s popular Game Of Thrones<\/em> series which sees its final episode airing this coming Sunday.<\/p>\n

We did a deal with David Benioff and Dan Weiss, who are famous for \u2018Game of Thrones\u2019 and the next movie that we release will be theirs, and we\u2019re not saying anything more about that.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Iger’s reveal does put to rest speculation as to who may be taking the cinematic reigns of the franchise. Previously, it had been revealed that Lucasfilm was in the process of developing two different cinematic trilogies. The first was with Benioff and Weiss while the second was being developed by The Last Jedi<\/strong> director Rian Johnson.<\/p>\n

Given the epic high concept fantasy conceit of Game Of Thrones<\/em>, many fans have speculated that Benioff and Weiss could be working on films that adapt in some way the Knights Of The Old Republic<\/em> series of video games, which were set thousands of years before the current Star Wars films and told the story of the early days of the Jedi Knights. And while recently, Lucasfilm chief Kathleen Kennedy did elude that the company was doing \u201csomething\u201d with the concept, it is no way official that the new project from Benioff and Weiss is that.<\/p>\n

The Benioff and Weiss Star Wars<\/strong> film will be in theaters on December 20, 2022.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
