Anthony and Joe Russo, the sibling directorial team behind The Avengers: Infinity War<\/strong> and The Avengers: Endgame<\/strong>, have announced two new genre projects that they are currently developing \u2013 adaptations of the 1980s indie comic book Grimjack<\/em> and the classic anime series Battle Of The Planets<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The Russos made the announcement today at San Diego Comic Con. The Brothers will be only producing the Grimjack<\/em> adaptation, which is slated as a series for Netflix. They did state that they were open to the possibility of helming Battle Of The Planets<\/strong>, which will be a theatrical film.<\/p>\n

Created by writer\/artist team of John Ostrander and Tim Truman, Grimjack<\/em> tells the story of a mercenary based in Cenosure, a city intersection of a number of alternate realities. The character was initially published by First Comics starting in August of 1984 and ran until the publisher went bankrupt in April 1991. In 2005, Ostrander and Truman revived the character for a six-part miniseries published by IDW Comics. IDW has also gone back and collected much of the original First Comics run in a series of trade paperbacks.<\/p>\n

Battle Of The Planets<\/em>, or Science Ninja Team Gatchman<\/em> as it was originally titled in Japan, centers on a group of teens who are trained to be the superheroic protectors of Earth against an alien invasion. THe series ran in Japan in 1972. In 1978, inspired by the success of Star Wars<\/strong>, producer Sandy Frank imported the show to the US, retitled it and trimmed down some of the violence and syndicated the show for weekday viewing. It was one of a number of Japanese genre shows both live action and animated that were introduced to American audiences at the time.
