He will be joining the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.filmbuffonline.com\/FBOLNewsreel\/wordpress\/2019\/07\/23\/amazon-casts-first-actor-middle-earth-series\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">already cast<\/a> Australian actress Markella Kavenagh.<\/p>\n<p>Variety broke the story, but Amazon has refused to comment.<\/p>\n<p>Reports are giving Poulter&#8217;s character&#8217;s name as Beldor. But like Kavenagh\u2019s reported character name of Tyra, the name Beldor does not actually appear in any of Tolkien\u2019s writings. While it is possible that it is a name created for the series, Beldor most likely is a code name for whatever his character\u2019s real name will be, which presumably could be a spoiler for what story they are planning to tell.<\/p>\n<p>The untitled series is set in Middle Earth\u2019s Second Age, thousands of years before the events of <em>The Hobbit<\/em> and <em>Lord of the Rings<\/em> which close out that land\u2019s Third Age. It is a time when the Great Rings of Power, ruled over by Sauron\u2019s One Ring, were first forged. The Second Age stretched a little over three thousand years and saw a great many things including the rise and fall of a great empire and the great war on which Elves and men fought to stop Sauron from conquering all of Middle Earth.<\/p>\n<p>Writers JD Payne and Patrick McKay are showrunning the series for Amazon with director Juan Antonio (J.A.)
