A satirical tale of a quartet of orphaned and emotionally disaffected pre-teens who form a band and find stardom, the film from first time Japanese director Makoto Nagahisa explored themes teen angst and celebrity.

(It should be noted that the zombies here are metaphorical and not the literal eat-your-brains kind.)

The film made a splash during its US premier at the Sundance last year, earning the fest’s World Cinema Dramatic Special Jury Prize for Originality before going on to earn more accolades across the festival circuit. You can read our review of the film here.

But now, We Are Little Zombies is set to get some wider distribution as Oscilloscope Laboratories is teaming with Kindred Spirits for a theatrical release of the film later this year.

In a statement, Oscilloscope’s Dan Berger said –

We Are Little Zombies is a film that genuinely defies categorization. At its heart, it’s an inspiring tale of overcoming grief, but on its face, it’s a wild, videogame inspired, musical oddity. And yet it somehow all melds together perfectly. With his feature debut, Makoto has really established himself as a filmmaker to watch.

No date has been set for the film’s US theatrical release.

Via Deadline.

The quirky festival hit gets US distribution.

[click for more]

[84
10634

0":"post-47136","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-news","8":"tag-we-are-little-zombies
[2
["GET
