Oscar history was made this evening as the South Korean class thriller Parasite<\/strong> took home four Academy Awards including Best Picture and became the first foreign language film to take that top prize. Director Bong Joon Ho’s film was the first South Korean film to be nominated for an Academy Award in any category and also nabbed the Oscars for Best Original Screenplay, Best International Film and Best Director.<\/p>\n

The winners of the four acting categories – Joaquin Phoenix, Renee Zellweger, Brad Pitt and Laura Dern – came as no surprise as all four had previously won at the Screen Actors Guild awards and were considered the strongest contenders in their respective categories. While Pitt’s Best Supporting Actor for his work in Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time In Hollywood<\/strong> is his first acting win, as a producer he has already won in 2014 as a producer on 12 Years A Slave<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Although many winners acknowledge director Martin Scorsese and his film The Irishman, the epic three-and-a-half hour gangster saga did not take home any Oscar gold despite ten nominations.<\/p>\n

Best Original Score winner Hildur Gu\u00f0nad\u00f3ttir became the first female composer to win the category since 1997 when Ann Dudley took home the trophy for The Full Monty<\/strong>. Adding Gu\u00f0nad\u00f3ttir’s win to her previous wins at the Emmys and the Golden Globes, she is now a Tony Award away from hitting EGOT status.<\/p>\n
