Lee David Zlotoff, the creator of the popular 1980s action television series MacGyver<\/em> has let slip that he is currently working on a big screen version of the resourceful hero who could get himself out of a variety of dangerous situations with only common household items and a bit of scientific know-how.<\/p>\n

Zlotoff made the mention of a possible MacGyver<\/em> movie this past weekend at Make Faire 2008<\/a>, a gathering of Do-It-Yourself enthusiasts where MacGyver himself would probably feel right at home. Gizmodo<\/a> was there to catch the mention and report it.<\/p>\n

As it seems that the mention was made in passing, there is no further specifics on the project as to when it would go into production or if Zlotoff even had a finished screenplay yet. No mention was made if Zlotoff was interested in bringing back series star Richard Dean Anderson or if he would recast the part with another, presumably younger, actor. Zlotoff remained mum on whetherthe character would sport Anderson’s trademark mullet.<\/p>\n

Although Gizmodo states that it is uncommon for a television series creator to retain film rights to a series, it is not without precedent. Glenn Larson retains the right to create a theatrical film out of his Battlestar Galactica<\/em> television series. Babylon 5<\/em> creator J. Michael Strazynski, who has become quite the hot name in Hollywood recently having scripted Clint Eastwood\u2019s Cannes premiering Changeling<\/strong> and is now working on the Wachowski Brothers\u2019 Ninja Assassin<\/strong> project, also has the rights to translate his science fiction epic series to the big screen.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
