Disney+ has another Star Wars<\/strong> series in development.<\/p>\n

The Hollywood Reporter<\/a> is stating that Russian Doll<\/em> co-creator Leslye Headland has signed a deal that will see her write and act as showrunner for the untitled series. No plot details accompany the report outside of saying that the show will have a “female-centric point of view on the galaxy far, far away.”<\/p>\n

Premiering on Netflix last year, Russian Doll<\/em> starred Natasha Lyonne in a Groundhogs Day<\/strong>-riff as a video game programmer who keeps dying and reliving her 36th birthday. The series nabbed 13 Emmy nominations and won three, two of which went to Headland.<\/p>\n

The untitled series will join a lineup that already consists of The Mandalorian<\/em>, which will have its second season debut later this year, a series focusing on the exploits of Rebellion spy Cassian Andor introduced in Rogue One<\/strong> and a series featuring Ewan MacGregor as Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi.<\/p>\n

On the theatrical side, Disney and Lucasfilm still have an untitled Star Wars<\/strong> film on its release calendar for December 16, 2022, with two more installments following at two year intervals. But it has not yet revealed what that film will be or who will be the creatives involved. Lucasfilm does have a number of irons in the creative fire. Knives Out<\/strong> and Star Wars: The Last Jedi<\/strong> writer\/director Rian Johnson is still working on a new trilogy of films of films for the studio. Also, Marvel Studios honcho Kevin Feige has reportedly had talks<\/a> with Lucasfilm chief Kathleen Kennedy about a possible Star Wars<\/strong> project as has Jojo Rabbit<\/strong> writer\/director Taika Waititi<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Additionally, Sleight<\/strong> director J D Dillard and Luke Cage<\/em> writer Matt Owens are currently developing a new Star Wars<\/strong> project<\/a>, though it is unknown if it is a theatrical film or a Disney+ series.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
