Margot Robbie is shipping out to sea.<\/p>\n

The Suicide Squad<\/strong>\/Birds Of Prey<\/strong> star has been attached to star in a new Pirates Of The Caribbean<\/strong> film at Disney, which will be scripted by Birds of Prey<\/strong> screenwriter Christina Hodson.<\/p>\n

This project is being developed separately from a previously reported franchise reboot coming from original Pirates Of The Caribbean<\/strong> co-screenwriter Ted Elliott and Chernobyl<\/em> creator Craig Mazin.<\/p>\n

Understandably, story details are scarce to non-existent, but the Hollywood Reporter is stating “is not intended to be a spinoff of the long-running franchise that had pirate Jack Sparrow at its center but rather a wholly original story with new characters under the Pirates moniker.”<\/p>\n

At one point Guardians Of The Galaxy<\/strong> co-star Karen Gillan was under consideration for take the lead of a new Pirates<\/strong> film for Disney. It is unclear as to whether that was in connection with the Elliott\/Mazin version, this version before the studio moved onto Robbie or a separate, third attempt. Of course, the Gillan rumor could have been as substantial as sea foam.<\/p>\n

Regardless of the validity of the Gillan rumor, Disney appears to be very interested in revitalizing their Pirates Of The Caribbean<\/strong> franchise. And who can blame them? The five films produced by the studio so far have grossed $4.5 billion worldwide. However, the returns on the last film, 2017’s Dead Men Tell No Tales<\/strong> and its $795 million haul, were the second lowest for the franchise. So an injection of new blood may certainly be the way to go. and having multiple takes in development at once seems to be a low cost way of making sure the studio is putting its best foot – Or should that be pegleg? – forward.<\/p>\n
