Beavis and Butt-head, the stars of MTV’s eponymous 1990s animated series, are coming back to television. Comedy Central, a corporate sibling of MTV in the Viacom family, is reviving the series with a two season commitment that brings back series creator Mike Judge to write, produce and voice the lead characters.<\/p>\n

Judge created the two miscreant characters for an animated short titled Frog Baseball. The short was included in the Spike & Mike’s Sick And Twisted Festival of Animation, a collection of animated shorts that toured college campuses and arthouses around the country. The shot later played on MTV’s animation anthology series Liquid Television before being picked up the network to be developed into a full series.<\/p>\n

A hit with audiences and critics, though perhaps not with busy body “concerned parents” groups, Beavis And Butt-Head ran for seven season between 1993 and 1997.During the height of its popularity, the show spawned a big screen iteration, Beavis ANd Butt-Head Do America, and a small screen spin-off, Daria. An attempt o revive the show in 2011 was less successful.<\/p>\n

In a press release, Chris McCarthy, President of Entertainment & Youth Group stated – <\/p>\n

We are thrilled to be working with Mike Judge and the great team at 3 Arts again as we double down on Adult Animation at Comedy Central. Beavis and Butt-Head<\/em> were a defining voice of a generation, and we can\u2019t wait to watch as they navigate the treacherous waters of a world light-years from their own.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

For his part, Judge was more sanguine, saying, “It seemed like the time was right to get stupid again.”<\/p>\n
