Benedict Cumberbatch is joining the cast of the upcoming Spider-Man 3<\/strong> where he will once again be portraying his Marvel Cinematic Universe character of the sorcerer supreme, Doctor Stephen Strange.<\/p>\n

The Hollywood Reporter<\/a> is saying that Cumberbatch’s role in the film will be to act as a new mentor for the teenage Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man, played by Tom Holland.<\/p>\n

Cumberbatch’s inclusion in the upcoming Spider-Man<\/strong> threequel does shed some interesting light on some other Spider-Man<\/strong> casting news we got last week. The upcoming Doctor Strange<\/strong> sequel, Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness<\/strong>, is set to be released after the third Spider-Man<\/strong> film and will reportedly start exploring the alternate dimension and timelines concept that was introduced in last year’s Avengers: Endgame<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Last week we learned that Jamie Foxx would be returning<\/a> to his role as the villain Electro for Spider-Man 3<\/strong>, but it was a role he originated in the Andrew Garfield-fronted Amazing Spider-Man 2<\/strong>, which is not part of the greater MCU continuity. Connecting these two dots opens up speculation that perhaps because of something that happens with the multiple realities that allows Electro to pass from his version of Earth to the one that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man calls home and that leads into bigger consequences in the Doctor Strange<\/strong> sequel.<\/p>\n

Multiverse Of Madness<\/strong> and the third Spider-Man<\/strong> film are both set to start shooting later this month, with cameras rolling in Atlanta for Spider-Man<\/strong> and in London for Multiverse Of Madness<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The third untitled Spider-Man<\/strong> film is targeted for a December 17, 2021 and Doctor Strange In The Multiverse O Madness<\/strong> is expected in theaters on March 25, 2022.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
