The 2020-2021 awards season kicks off today as the Independent Film Project announces the nominees for the 30th annual Gotham Awards.<\/p>\n

Gotham Awards nominees are usually spread out across a number of films, so you don’t necessarily see a race between just two or three films dominating a number of categories. That said, Kelly Reichardt’s First Cow<\/strong> landed four nominations including Best Feature and Screenplay. Numerous other films including The Forty-Year-Old Version<\/strong>, Nomadland<\/strong> and The Vast Of Night<\/strong> secured two nominations in various categories.<\/p>\n

The complete list of nominees is below.<\/p>\n

This is just the first of the award nominee announcements and presentations that we will be seeing over the next several months in what is the longest award season in recent memory.<\/p>\n

Due to low theatrical rollouts of films, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences have extended the eligibility period for the Academy Awards and pushed the date of the Oscars ceremony from late February 2021 to April 25, 2021.<\/p>\n

The Gotham Awards also pushed its eligibility window out this year, making February 28, 2021 the cutoff release date for films to be considered. Eligible films must also have a budget less than $35 million.<\/p>\n

The award ceremony is scheduled for January 11, 2021. Normally the Gotham Awards are handed out the first Monday after Thanksgiving.<\/p>\n
