The announcement from FX marks a historic milestone for the series. Currently, with the show having finished airing its fourteenth season, it is tied with the classic 1950s/60s sitcom The Adventures Of Ozzie And Harriet as the longest-running live action scripted sitcom. The renewal now firmly makes It’s Always Sunny the record holder.

The renewal announcement came yesterday during the Disney Investors Call in which the network rolled out a number of announcements for projects coming in 2021 and beyond.

It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia was created by series costar Rob McElhenney, who developed it with fellow castmate Glenn Howerton. Charlie Day, Kaitlin Olson and Danny DeVito round out the cast as a group of friends who run a South Philly Irish bar, Paddy’s Pub. All five are enormously flawed with competitive natures that immediately escalate nearly every situation they find themselves in.

The show was FX’s first scripted comedy when it debuted in 2005. In 2013, It’s Always Sunny was moved by FX to its younger-skewing cable channel FXX.

The four season order makes IT’S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA the longest running scripted live action sitcom in television history.

[click for more]

[10285
10957

0":"post-48271","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-tv-news","8":"tag-its-always-sunny-in-philadelphia
[2
["GET
