If you are tuning in to Saturday Night Live<\/em> this evening hoping to see more of Jim Carrey’s impression of President-elect Joe Biden you are in for a disappointment.<\/p>\n

Going forward the role will be played by one of the current regular cast members. Carrey first came aboard the show at the beginning of the current season<\/a> as the presidential election was heading into its final six weeks.<\/p>\n

The comic actor has announced earlier today that he will no longer be popping up on the show via twitter –<\/p>\n

There is no word as to whether Maya Rudolph, the former SNL<\/em> cast member who has been returning this season to play Vice-President-elect Kamala Harris, will be continuing in that role.<\/p>\n

Honestly, I can’t say that I am disappointed to see him go. While Carrey’s impersonation was good, it wasn’t the best that the show has seen. That honor belongs to Jason Sudeikis, who played the former Vice-President during his time as a cast member on the show between 2005 and 2013. As a former cast alumni – something which Carrey isn’t – it would be great to see to him return to the show, though his current commitments to the second season of his Apple+ series Ted Lasso<\/em> might keep him from making an appearance.<\/p>\n

Ideally, it would be great if one of the show’s regular cast members could take over the part. Currently, SNL<\/em> has twenty main and featured cast members and every time the show brings in an outsider to take a role in a sketch, especially a prominent role like that of a national figure like President-elect Biden, it is taking away airtime from one of those cast members.<\/p>\n

We’ll see who winds up stepping into the role either tonight when alum Kristen Wiig returns to host or next January when the show returns from its holiday break.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
