The Arrow<\/em> spinoff, Green Arrow And The Canaries<\/em>, is dead at the CW.<\/p>\n

The series was designed to spin out from Arrow, the cornerstone show on which the CW built an interconnected franchise of superhero shows based on DC Comics properties. The series would have jumped forward in time two decades and centered on Mia Smoke, the daughter of Oliver Queen, aka the original Green Arrow, and his love Felicity Smoke. Mia (Katherine McNamara) would find herself fighting alongside two different incarnations of the hero Black Canary (Katie Cassidy and Juliana Harkavy). Much of the show was set up via flashforwards and some time travel hijinks in Arrow<\/em>‘s seventh and eighth, and final, season.<\/p>\n

The cancellation comes at a time of churn for the CW’s Arrowverse shows. Arrow itself closed up shop last year, and two other shows – Supergirl and Black Lightening – will be finishing their runs at the end of their current seasons. The network also has a couple of other new shows in development as potential replacements including one focusing the teen hero Wonder Girl; Nubia, featuring one of the more recent heroes to enter the DC Comics pantheon, which is being developed by Ava DueVernaey; and the Black Lightening spinoff Painkiller, centered on the show’s antihero supporting character.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
