Gina Carano is no longer part of the vast of the Disney+ Star Wars<\/strong> series The Mandalorian<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The actor is currently embroiled in controversy after she posted, and then deleted, on Instagram that being a Republican in Hollywood was comparable to being Jewish during the Holocaust.<\/p>\n

In a statement released to the media, Disney stated simply that the MMA fighter-turned-actor would not be returning to The Mandalorian<\/em> and her role as former Rebel Alliance soldier Cara Dune, eluding to her recent social media statements but not outright blaming them for her absence from the series going forward.<\/p>\n

Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

It is unknown if the character will be written out of The Mandalorian<\/em> and other planned Star Wars appearances or if it will be recast with a new actor.<\/p>\n

This is not the first time that Carano had been on the receiving end of criticism over social media posts. In the past she has doubted the effectiveness of facemasks in slowing the spread COVID-19, embraced baseless conspiracy theories of voter fraud in the 2020 Presidential election and has made transphobic jokes. The calls to have her removed from the series have only increased with each post over the past several months.<\/p>\n

Last December, Disney announced a number of additional Star Wars<\/strong> series for Disney+, including one titled Rangers Of The New Republic<\/em>. Given events with her character in the recently concluded second season of the show, many fans had assumed that she could conceivably show up on that show. Now, however, it sounds as if she won’t be, regardless of what plans the studio may have previously had.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
