Hulu is hoping that a spinoff of the popular sitcom How I Met Your Mother<\/em> will prove just as legen – wait for it – dary. The streaming outlet has just ordered a ten-episode season of How I met Your Father<\/em> with Mother<\/em> creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas serving as executive producers and Hillary Duff set to headline.<\/p>\n

The show’s logline spells out the gender-swapped version of the original series’ premise – <\/p>\n

In the near future, Sophie (Duff) is telling her son the story of how she met his father: a story that catapults us back to the year 2021 where Sophie and her close-knit group of friends are in the midst of figuring out who they are, what they want out of life, and how to fall in love in the age of dating apps and limitless options.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

And while the show will aping the original series’ flashback narrative structure, it will feature a brand new set of characters. There is no word yet as to whether anyone from the classic series will make an appearance on the new show.<\/p>\n

This is the fourth time that an attempt to spinoff a new series from How I Met Your Mother<\/em> has been made. The first game in 2014 as the original series was winding up its last season. That version, titled How I Met Your Dad<\/em>, featured Greta Gerwig and got as far as having a pilot produced before CBS, who had ordered it, passed. Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger took a shot at developing the concept two years later but weren’t able to make it work. You’re The Worst<\/em> writer Allison Bennett was brought in a year later but got no further in getting a pilot script that the studio was interested in greenlighting.<\/p>\n
