Peacock has renewed Girls5Eva<\/em>, their hit comedy about the members of a 1990s girl-pop group reuniting twenty-five years after their brief, one-summer’s worth of stardom, has been renewed for a second season.<\/p>\n

The series stars Sara Bareilles, Ren\u00e9e Elise Goldsberry, Busy Philipps and Paula Pell as the members of the one-hit wonder `1990s girl group, Girls5Eva (“Cuz forever’s too short”). After a popular rap star samples their one hit and they reunite to back him on a late night talk show performance, the women decide that maybe they have another shot at stardom. But the road back to the limelight may be even harder to travel tan it was the first time they took it.<\/p>\n

The series was created by former Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt<\/em> writer Meredith Scardino and is executive produced by Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt<\/em> creators Tina Fey and Robert Carlock. The first season of the series premiered on the Peacock streaming service last month.<\/p>\n

In addition to being an impeccably operating joke machine and having songs that are scathingly spot-on stylistic parodies of 1990s girl group pop tunes, Girls5Eva<\/em> also comedically deals with issues such as the disability of pop stars and the ageism that is often leveled at women in all aspects of the entertainment industry.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
