Russell T Davies – the writer\/producer who successfully revived the BBC’s classic science-fiction series Doctor Who in 2005 – has been tapped to return to return to the series.<\/p>\n

Davies will be stepping back into the showrunner’s office most recently occupied by Chris Chibnall, who announced his own stepping down<\/a> from the position with the conclusion of the revived show’s upcoming season and then a series of specials that will air through next year earlier this summer. Current series star Jodie Whittaker also announced that she was leaving after four seasons headlining the show at the same time. Davies’s new run will coincide with the show’s 60th anniversary in 2023.<\/p>\n

In a statement released by the BBC, Davies said –<\/p>\n

I’m beyond excited to be back on my favorite show. But we’re time-traveling too fast, there’s a whole series of Jodie Whittaker’s brilliant Doctor for me to enjoy, with my friend and hero Chris Chibnall at the helm \u2014 I’m still a viewer for now.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Joining Davies will be Jane Tranter and Julie Gardner, who worked with him on his first stint on the series.<\/p>\n

With Whittaker stepping down, one of the first duties Davies will be tasked with is choosing a replacement. That announcement most likely won’t come until much closer to the airing of Whittaker’s final episode.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
