Paramount+ has announced the season renewals for two of its Star Trek<\/em> series – the returning Star Trek: Discovery<\/em> and the brand new Star Trek: Strange New Worlds<\/em>. <\/p>\n

Discovery<\/em>, currently in the midst of it’s fourth season will return for a fifth. Meanwhile, Strange New Worlds<\/em> is getting a vote of confidence from the streamer which has ordered up a second season before the first season has even aired on the the service.<\/p>\n

Additionally, the streaming outlet announced today that the second season premier of Star Trek: Picard<\/em> is set for March 3rd while Strange New Worlds<\/em> will launch on May 5.<\/p>\n

Spinning off from Star Trek: Discovery<\/em>, Strange New Worlds<\/em> focuses on the early exploratory missions of the USS Enterprise in the years before William Shatner’s Captain Kirk took command. Anson Mount stars as Captain Christopher Pike alongside Rebecca Romijn as Number One and Ethan Peck as Science Officer Spock. All three first premiered their characters during Discovery<\/em>‘s second season. With the animated Star Trek: Lower Decks<\/em> set to return this coming summer, it is a good bet that it’s premier will most probably follow the week after Strange New Worlds<\/em>‘s first season finale.<\/p>\n

The back-to-back roll outs of the series fits in with Paramount+’s plans to build their Star Trek<\/em> franchise into a programming cornerstone of the service. Other series in the franchise include the animated Star Trek: Prodigy<\/em>, which debuted last fall and an in-development series centering on the mysterious Starfleet division known as Section 31.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
