Godzilla’s MonsterVerse is getting ready to expand.<\/p>\n

Apple TV+ is in development on a series that will bring Legendary Studio’s MonsterVerse – which currently encompasses its recent run of Godzilla<\/strong> and Kong<\/strong> films – to television screens.<\/p>\n

The currently untitled show will be co-created and executive produced by Chris Black (Star Trek: Enterprise) and comic book writer Matt Fraction, whose profile is particularly high right now following the success of Disney+’s Hawkeye<\/em> series which was based in large part on a run of the Marvel Comic which he authored.<\/p>\n

According to the show’s logline, it appears as if it will take up its story shortly after the events of 2014’s Godzilla<\/strong> which kicked off the current cycle of films –<\/p>\n

Following the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco and the shocking new reality that monsters are real, the series explores one family’s journey to uncover its buried secrets and a legacy linking them to the secret organization known as Monarch.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

This certainly seems like an interesting timeline<\/a> to explore. You have various Titans being revealed to the world in the five year period between Godzilla<\/strong> and the events of 2019’s Godzilla: King Of The Monsters<\/strong>. And the monster hunting Monarch organization was certainly busy then as well. It should be interesting to see what the show has in store.<\/p>\n

This also raises the question as to whether Warner Brothers is done with the big screen iteration of the MonsterVerse. The franchise was modestly successful for them. Even last year’s Godzilla Vs Kong<\/strong><\/a>, which was released in the midst of the pandemic and in theaters and on HBO Max simultaneously, still managed to gross over $467 million worldwide, putting it into the black by approximately $137 million. That would suggest that Warner Brothers might not be ready to leave any additional cash on the table from future movies, but that this could be the opening move in a play that Apple is making for the franchise.
