Kotsur’s win marks him as only the second deaf actor to win an Academy Award, following Marlee Matlin’s win for Children Of A Lesser God in 1987. CODA also won the awards for Best Adapted Screenplay for Sian Heder.

Director Jane Campion’s The Power Of The Dog was the front runner of the awards season, with 12 nominations and a load of critical good-will and other award show wins. But the film wound up being shut out, with only Campion taknig home an Oscar for Best Director.

Director Dennis Villenuvue’s adaptation of the classic science-fiction novel Dune was another front runner with ten nominations, the film with the second most nods earned by a movie after Power Of The Dog. A path to win it’s nomination in the Best Picture category was deemed difficult for the film as Villenuvue didn’t clinch a Best Director. And while it didn’t take home the big prize, it did take home the Oscars for Best Cinematography, Editing, Production Design, Score, Sound and Visual Effects.

Of the seven nominations director Steven Spielberg’s new adaptation of West Side Story received, it only managed to win one Oscar, with Ariana DeBose taking home the award for Best Supporting Actress. DeBose’s win puts her into the rarefied category of being one of a pair of actors to win Academy Awards for the same role in different productions. Previously, Rita Moreno won Best Supporting Actress for the 1961 production of the classic musical.

Japan’s entry in the International Feature category, Drive My Car, took home the Oscar for the category. The film had been nominated in a total four nominations – Best Picture, Director, Adapted Screenplay and International Feature – a record number of nominations for a Japanese film.

Here is the complete list of winners at this year’s Academy Awards.

BEST PICTURE
CODA

BEST DIRECTOR
Jane Campion – The Power of the Dog

BEST ACTRESS
Jessica Chastain – The Eyes of Tammy Faye

BEST ACTOR
Will Smith – King Richard

BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS
Ariana DeBose – West Side Story

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR
Troy Kotsur – CODA

BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAY
CODA – Sian Heder

BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY
Belfast – Kenneth Branagh

BEST INTERNATIONAL FEATURE
Drive My Car – Japan

BEST ANIMATED FEATURE
Encanto

BEST ANIMATED SHORT
The Windshield Wiper

BEST LIVE ACTION SHORT
The Long Goodbye

BEST DOCUMENTARY FEATURE
Summer of Soul

BEST DOCUMENTARY SHORT
The Queen of Basketball

BEST ORIGINAL SCORE
Dune – Hans Zimmer

BEST ORIGINAL SONG
“No Time to Die” — Billie Eilish & Finneas O’Connell – No Time to Die

BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY
Dune – Greig Fraser

BEST COSTUME DESIGN
Cruella – Jenny Beavan

BEST FILM EDITING
Dune – Joe Walker

BEST MAKEUP & HAIRSTYLING
The Eyes of Tammy Faye

BEST PRODUCTION DESIGN
Dune

BEST SOUND
Dune

BEST VISUAL EFFECTS
Dune

The story of an aspiring singer and her deaf parents and a science-fiction epic were the big winners at this year’s Academy Awards.

[click for more]

[84
11252,11386,2764,9552

0":"post-50438","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-news","8":"tag-2022-academy-awards","9":"tag-coda","10":"tag-dune","11":"tag-west-side-story
[2
["GET
