Amazon has cancelled their subscription to Paper Girls<\/em>. The series, based on a series of graphic novels by writer Brian K Vaughn and artist Cliff Chiang, will not be renewed for a second season on the streamer it was announced today.<\/p>\n

The series revolved around four teenage paper girls in 1988 Cleveland, Ohio who find themselves caught in the crossfire between two warring factions of time travelers. As they try to escape the madness around them, the quartet wind up traveling in time themselves, even coming face to face with an older version of one of them.<\/p>\n

Amazon premiered Paper Girls<\/em> at the end of July, dropping all eight episodes of the first season on July 29. Ratings were apparently not good with the Hollywood Reporter<\/a> stating that the show “didn\u2019t make Nielsen\u2019s top 10 original streaming rankings for any of the three weeks after its July 29 premiere.” A second season was slated to begin production in June, but may have been put on hold until after the premier to gauge how the show would be received.<\/p>\n

The original comic series premiered in October 2015 and ran for thirty issues over four years. It was later collected into six trade paperbacks. In 2016, the series won the Eisner Award for Best New Series and Best Penciller\/Inker (Chiang) as well as the Harvey Award for Best New Series.<\/p>\n
