Jon Bernthal is returning to his role of the gun-totting vigilante the Punisher for Disney+’s upcoming Daredevil: Born Again<\/em> series.<\/p>\n

Bernthal first brought the the comic book character to life in the second season of Netflix’s Daredevil<\/em>, one of a small group of shows based on more street-level Marvel Comics characters. The character was then spun-off to his own series which lasted for two seasons. The Netflix group of shows were cancelled in 2019 and ultimately, they have been migrated back to the Disney+ streaming service.<\/p>\n

Frank Castle, AKA The Punisher, turned to vigilantism after his family was killed in the crossfire of a war between two rival crime families. While dealing with the trauma of the murder of his loved ones, he hunts down members of criminal organizations in order to extra-legally execute them.<\/p>\n

Daredevil: Born Again<\/em> sees Charlie Cox returning as the titular blind superhero after playing the character for three seasons on Netflix. He already reprieved the character for a cameo in his civilian identity of lawyer Matt Murdoch in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home<\/strong> and a guest appearance in last year’s She-Hulk<\/em> series on Disney+.<\/p>\n

Bernthal is now the second character to join Cox on Daredevil: Born Again<\/em> from the Netflix universe of Marvel shows. Previously it was announced that Vincent D\u2019Onofrio will return as the crime boss Wilson Fisk, aka the Kingpin. D\u2019Onofrio previously reprised Kingpin for Disney+’s Hawkeye<\/em> series and both he and Cox are expected to appear in the upcoming series Echo<\/em> for the streamer. It remains to be clarified if the Netflix shows are in direct continuity with the more recent Disney+ Marvel shows or not.<\/p>\n

The series was officially announced at San Diego Comic Con last summer and is targeted for an early 2024 premier for its first season of 18 episodes.<\/p>\n
