The truth is still out there and maybe director Ryan Coogler will be the one to find it.<\/p>\n

According to Chris Carter, the creator of the iconic 1990s television series The X-Files<\/em>, Ryan Coogler is currently working on a new iteration of the shows.<\/p>\n

Speaking on the On the Coast With Gloria Macarenko<\/em> radio show<\/a> on Canada’s CBC network, Carter said –<\/p>\n

I just spoke to a young man, Ryan Coogler, who is going to remount The X-Files<\/em> with a diverse cast. So he\u2019s got his work cut out for him, because we covered so much territory.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The X-Files<\/em> premiered on FOX in the fall of 1993 and ran for nine years, with two additional seasons in 2016 and 2019 and two feature films in 1998 and 2008. It centered on two FBI agents, Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson), who are regulated to investigating mysterious cases that boarder on, or indeed cross the boarder into, the supernatural. Along the way, they also uncover an ever increasingly complex web of a conspiracy involving UFOs, shadowy government organizations, two factions of extraterrestrials, a mysterious black oil, bees, Mulder’s sister who disappeared when they were children and more.<\/p>\n

Carter did not elaborate on exactly he was defining “remount,” leaving it unclear as to whether this will be a continuation of the original series, a la NBC’s Quantum Leap<\/em> revival, or a complete reboot, starting fresh.<\/p>\n

In all honesty, it might be better for Coogler to just start fresh. The X-Files<\/em> mythos grew fairly twisty and complex over the years, and to pick up the series with eleven seasons of backstory could very likely deter viewers and straitjacket storytelling possibilities for Coogler and his crew.<\/p>\n
