It appears as if we may not find out how Sophie met the father of her son after all.<\/p>\n

Hulu has cancelled their series How I Met Your Father<\/em>, declining to pick the series up for a third season. A spinoff of the vastly popular early aughts hit How I Met Your Mother<\/em>, the series’s twenty-episode second season finished airing this past June.<\/p>\n

How I Met Your Father<\/em> centered on the fractured lovelife of Sophie (Hillary Duff) as she and her friends made their way through life in modern day Manhattan, while in the future, she narrated their adventures in the form of a conversation with her unseen son. (Older Sophie is played onscreen by Kim Cattrall. The cast also included Christopher Lowell, Suraj Sharma, Francia Raisa, Tom Ainsley and Tien Tran.<\/p>\n

Although not a direct sequel to the original series, none of the main characters appeared there before moving onto this new show, the world of the How I Met Your Father<\/em> characters does overlap. Two of the characters bought the familiar How I Might Your Mother<\/em> apartment from that series character’s Marshall and Lily. A handful of characters from How I Met Your Mother<\/em> did crossover to appear in Father from minor ones such as Kyle MacLachlan’s eccentric billionaire known only as the Captain and Alexis Denisof’s obnoxious newscaster Sandy Rivers to main players Cobie Smulders and Neil Patrick Harris.<\/p>\n

Created by Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger alongside How I Met Your Mother<\/em> progenitors Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, the series was actually the fourth attempt to get the gender-flipped series to air. The first attempt from 2014, which starred Greta Gerwig and was titled How I Met Your Dad<\/em>, got as far as shooting a pilot for CBS, but the network did not pick it up for series. Production company Twentieth Century Fox Television would try again in 2016 with writers Aptaker and Berger and again a year later with You\u2019re The Worst<\/em> writer Allison Bennett, though neither attempt got to a point where a pilot was put into production. It wouldn\u2019t be until Aptaker and Berger returned for a second try that the show would finally get to go ahead from Hulu.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
