The next Star Wars<\/strong> theatrical film has been set and will feature some familiar characters. Lucasfilm has announced that Star Wars: The Mandalorian & Grogu<\/strong>, a big screen spinoff of their popular The Mandalorian<\/em> Disney+ series, is set the begin production later this year.<\/p>\n

The film will be written and directed by Mandalorian<\/em> co-creator John Favreau and produced by Favreau, other Mandalorian<\/em> co-creator Dave Filloni and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy.<\/p>\n

Previously it was thought that director Sharlene Obaid-chinoy\u2019s Star Wars<\/strong> project, which would feature Daisy Ridley\u2019s character of Rey from the Sequel Trilogy, would be the film to go into production. There is no word as to whether it too will get in front of cameras this year or if its start of production has been pushed back.<\/p>\n

Although the announcement does not specifically state it, the fact that production is expected to start later this year strongly suggests that this film will be in place of a fourth season of the regular Mandalorian<\/em> season on Disney+.<\/p>\n

The Mandalorian<\/em> was the first Star Wars<\/strong> series to air on Disney+, debuting when the streaming service launched in November 2019. It ran for three seasons and launched a spinoff series, The Book Of Boba Fett<\/em>, which premiered in 2021.<\/p>\n

In the announcement, which can be found over at starwars.com<\/a>, Favreau and Kennedy are quoted as saying –<\/p>\n

\u201cI have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created,\u201d said Favreau. \u201cThe prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting.\u201d<\/p>\n

“Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have ushered into Star Wars two new and beloved characters, and this new story is a perfect fit for the big screen,” added Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

There is no date set for the release of The Mandalorian & Grogu<\/em>, but previously, Disney has penciled in potential dates in December 2025, May 2026, December 2026 and December 2027 for untitled Star Wars<\/strong> films.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
