Paramount is getting ready to take their most iconic franchise back to the big screen. According to reports, the studio is moving forward on a new theatrical Star Trek<\/strong> film.<\/p>\n

Toby Haynes, who directed several episodes of the Disney+ Star Wars<\/strong> series Andor<\/em>, will be taking command of this new film, with Seth Grahame-Smith writing the screenplay.<\/p>\n

According to the Hollywood Reporter<\/a>, the film will be set “decades before the events of 2009\u2019s Star Trek<\/strong>, which J.J. Abrams helmed,” which suggests that this story will be crewed by new characters instead of familiar faces we’ve seen in previous Star Trek<\/strong> film and television series.<\/p>\n

Although Paramount has had success with the franchise after it jumped from television to the big screen, it has been nearly eight years since it has last graced movie theaters. In the meantime, a variety of Trek<\/strong> television series have formed the cornerstone of the Paramount+ streaming service.<\/p>\n

But hasn’t been for lack of trying that Paramount hasn’t been able to launch a new Trek <\/strong>theatrical project. At one point<\/a>, the studio had not one but three potential big screen projects into development- a straight sequel to Beyond<\/strong> and new and different takes on the franchise from Fargo<\/em> creator Noah Hawley<\/a> and iconic filmmaker Quentin Tarantino<\/a>. And while the Hawley and Tarantino-driven projects are dead, Paramount is reportedly still looking at one more film to feature the Enterprise crew from Abrams’ 2009 Star Trek<\/strong>, which recast the classic Trek series actors for a new series of theatrical film adventures. This projected fourth film is said to be the final installment featuring this cast.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
