{"id":524,"date":"2008-06-01T20:28:00","date_gmt":"2008-06-02T00:28:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.filmbuffonline.com\/FBOLNewsreel\/wordpress\/?p=524"},"modified":"2021-07-15T19:19:20","modified_gmt":"2021-07-15T23:19:20","slug":"update-universal-studios-fire-nothing-irreplaceable-lost","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.filmbuffonline.com\/FBOLNewsreel\/wordpress\/2008\/06\/01\/update-universal-studios-fire-nothing-irreplaceable-lost\/","title":{"rendered":"UPDATE: Universal Studios Fire, Nothing Irreplaceable Lost"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The fire that broke out at Universal Studios early Sunday morning will not hamper a majority of the production work going on at the studio, despite it having damaged several standing outdoor sets.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Tomorrow will be business as usual,&#8221; said the studio&#8217;s president and chief operating officer, Ron Meyer to the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20151016230619\/http:\/\/articles.latimes.com\/2008\/jun\/02\/local\/me-production2\">LA Times<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Destroyed or damaged in the blaze were Universal&#8217;s New York and New England sets which had been used in such films as <strong>The Sting<\/strong>, <strong>When Harry Met Sally<\/strong> and Clint Eastwood&#8217;s upcoming <strong>The Changeling<\/strong>. Also damaged was the courthouse square from the <strong>Back To The Future<\/strong> trilogy.<br \/>Also damaged was one building housing a video vault, with some 40,000 to 50,000 videos reportedly affected by the flames.<\/p>\n<p>However, Meyer told <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20141125054937\/http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/2008\/06\/01\/us-fire-universal-damage-idUSN0141147420080601\">Reuters<\/a> news service that &#8220;nothing irreplaceable was lost.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The fire started on the New York City Street set and was reported at 4:45 am. Nearly 500 firefighters from Los Angeles area fire departments responded to combat the blaze, which was brought under control after nearly 12 hours.
