Warner Brothers Animation and DC Studios have greenlit Mister Miracle<\/em>, an adult animated series based on the Eisner Award-winning comic from Tom King and Mitch Gerads. King is set to executive produce and serve as showrunner on the series, which is reported to be currently in production.<\/p>\n

The studio made that announcement at the Annecy animation festival in France.<\/p>\n

King and Gerads’ 12-issue miniseries centered on Scott Free, aka Mister Miracle, one of the race of alien New Gods who, alongside his wife Big Barda, is just trying to live in domestic tranquility on Earth. Their hopes for a nice quiet life are shattered when their two homeworlds – New Genesis and Apocalypse – go to war after Apocalypse’s evil ruler Darkseid gains control of the all-powerful Anti-Life Equation.<\/p>\n

The announcement was somewhat sparse on actual details including voice cast and other writers involved. It is also unclear as if, like last year’s animated Creature Commandos<\/em> series on HBO Max,it will be a part of DC Studios’ new DC Universe franchise, which will kick into high gear next month with the release of Superman<\/strong> in the theaters. It is most likely that this new series will, though, given the importance of the Mister Miracle-connected New Gods characters are in the over DC Comics mythos. No outlet for the series has been announced, though it would seem likely that like Creature Commandos<\/em>, it will air on the HBO Max streamer.<\/p>\n

Like nearly all of the original New Gods characters, Mister Miracle was created by writer\/artist Jack Kirby during his stint at DC Comics in the early 1970s. (Scott’s relationship with Barda is said to have been inspired by Kirby’s own relationship with his wife Roz.) The character has appeared in animation a few times before, but this will be the first time he will be headlining his own show.<\/p>\n
