Seth Rogen and Sabrina Carpenter are getting ready to start the music and light the lights.<\/p>\n

Disney+ has ordered up a special to commerate the 50th anniversary of the iconic The Muppet Show<\/em> with Rogen and his producing partner Evan Goldberg serving as executive producers. <\/p>\n

According to the Hollywood Reporter, this special could also be serving as a back door pilot for a full revival of the iconic puppet-led variety show.<\/p>\n

The news follows a rumor of a possible Muppet project involving Rogen that circulated last week. Rogen makes an interesting choice. Given his quadruple win at the Emmy\u2019s for writing, directing, producing and starring in the show business comedy The Studio. If there is anyone who could bring to life the behind the scene mayhem of a variety show, it could be him.<\/p>\n

The Muppet Show<\/em> was the brainchild of Muppet creator Jim Henson. He had been looking for a way to spotlight his creations in a venue that was not strictly for children, like his work on Sesame Street was. He had produced two pilots for ABC, but the network had passed on them. An attempt to integrate them as a regular feature on a new series on NBC called Saturday Night<\/em> proved to be an ill fit and ended after that first season. But being free from Saturday Night<\/em> made Henson and his crew available when British producer Lew Grade came calling, wanting to work with him. The result was The Muppet Show<\/em> which debuted the following September. The show would run for five seasons, be a world-wide hit and spawn a franchise of film and other television shows across the last five decades.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
