Atlas Entertainment has acquired the rights to the historical fantasy comic book series Redcoat<\/em> from publisher Ghost Machine. The series was created by Geoff Johns and Bryan Hitch, with Johns set to write the screenplay for the big screen adaptation. No other creatives have been attached tho the project.<\/p>\n

Launched in April 2024, the series focuses on Simon Pure, a deserter from the British Army at the time of the Revolutionary War who accidentally is imbued with immortality. More than a bit of a cad, Simon moves through history, interacting with a number of historical and legendary American figures while slowly uncovering a hidden conspiracy tied to the very founding of the country.<\/p>\n

Redcoat<\/em> is part of a small group of titles that will be telling a much larger story called “The Unnamed.” The rollout of the overall story has been a bit slow, with just a hint or two in Redcoat<\/em>, though the titular character from the miniseries Junkyard Joe<\/em> recently showed up in the future-set Geiger<\/em>. Redcoat<\/em>‘s first issue was an immediate hit, selling out on release before going back for several additional printings.<\/p>\n

There is no reporting on whether or not any of the other Ghost Machine titles are being considered for their own films by Atlas. But it does seem likely that the production company would get first dibs on them, especially if a Redcoat<\/em> film does well at the box office.<\/p>\n
