Sean Penn also took home the award for Best Supporting Actor for his work in the film.<\/p>\n<p>Writer\/director Ryan Coogler&#8217;s tale of vampires in the Deep South during the Depression, <strong>Sinners<\/strong>, took home four Academy Awards including the one for Best Original Sreenplay. <strong>Sinners<\/strong> Director of Photography Autumn Durald Arkapaw is the first woman nominated in the category win in the Cinematography category. She is also the first woman to have shoot a 65mm IMAX feature film.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sinners<\/strong> entered into the Academy Award season with a record sixteen nominations, with <strong>One Battle After Another<\/strong> in a close second place with thirteen nominations. Going through the awards season, the two films were often neck and neck in terms of honors from the various guilds and critics groups.<\/p>\n<p>Another history making moment came in the Live Action Short Films category, where two of the nominees &#8211; <strong>The Singers<\/strong> and<strong> Two People Exchanging Saliva<\/strong>. Ties have previously only happened six times in Academy history, the last being in 2012 for Sound Editing (<strong>Skyfall<\/strong> and <strong>Zero Dark Thirty<\/strong>). This is the second tie in the short film, with <strong>Franz Kafka&#8217;s It&#8217;s A Wonderful Life<\/strong> and <strong>Trevor<\/strong> sharing the award in 1994.
