{"id":575,"date":"2008-06-17T02:01:00","date_gmt":"2008-06-17T06:01:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.filmbuffonline.com\/FBOLNewsreel\/wordpress\/?p=575"},"modified":"2018-12-08T14:51:57","modified_gmt":"2018-12-08T19:51:57","slug":"john-cleese-working-on-musical-called-wanda","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.filmbuffonline.com\/FBOLNewsreel\/wordpress\/2008\/06\/17\/john-cleese-working-on-musical-called-wanda\/","title":{"rendered":"John Cleese Working On Musical Called WANDA?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>John Cleese is working on a musical version of his classic comedy <strong>A Fish Called Wanda<\/strong>, according to an interview published over the weekend in Britain&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/celebritynews\/2130261\/Memories-of-Jamie-Lee-Curtis-make-John-Cleese-sing-again.html\"><em>The Daily Telegraph<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Spurned on by the success of <em>Spamalot<\/em>, for which he waived his right for royalties assuming that the musical adaptation of <strong>Monty Python And The Holy Grail<\/strong> wouldn&#8217;t be successful, Cleese is collaborating with his daughter Camilla to bring the 1988 comedy to the stage.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>We&#8217;ve knocked the story into shape. We&#8217;re going to try a few lyrics and if it turns out we are no good \u2013 which is what I expect \u2013 we&#8217;ll get a new lyricist in. Right now we&#8217;re working on the story and trying to figure out where the songs should go. It&#8217;s very early days, though.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Hopefully, Cleese and Cleese will be able to turn out a script that will actually make it to the boards. There&#8217;s plenty of farcical material in <strong>A Fish Called Wanda<\/strong> that should play well live.
