Although I’m no great fan of the more recent spate of extreme horror films, I have to admit that the idea behind this coming weekend’s After Dark Horror Fest is one that seems so obvious that it should have been done by now. After Dark Films, in association with Lionsgate and Freestyle, has gathered nine horror flicks that would probably have headed straight to videostore shelves – with only a few making quick sidetrips on the festival circuit – and is packaging them in a mini-festival of their own, screening in special engagements on about 500 screens around the country. Since probably none of these could probably sustain anything more than extremely limited theatrical runs, this does give genre fans a chance to catch these films on the big screen.<\/p>\n
Of course the question remains- Do we believe the advertising that states these are movies that are “too shocking for the general public” or are these just too bad for a general theatrical release?<\/p>\n
