The director recently divulged his intentions in a post on his Twitter feed –<\/p>\n

The director elaborated on the idea in an interview with CINSSU<\/a>–<\/p>\n

I think an interesting thing that may happen with it is\u2014I was on Twitter and people are asking about Red State, and then a dude tweeted \u2018hey man, what if we pay for it?\u2019 And all of a sudden, a bunch of people were like \u2018Seriously, why not?\u2019… We\u2019re kind of creating this website. We\u2019re seeing if it works to set up and collect donations. It becomes a weird tax nightmare, though\u2026It sounded like such an easy thing online\u2026but now there\u2019s lots of checks and balances to make sure we can do it, but if that\u2019s the case, I would be into it, and I\u2019ll match it. Whatever you raise on line, like fuck it, you put it up, I\u2019ll put it up.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Red State<\/strong> is a horror script that Smith has been talking about for the past couple of years.\u00a0 A definite change of pace for the director, he has stated that the script’s relentlessly bleak nature is the main reason he has not been able to get a studio interested in making the film.<\/p>\n

But before he can get started on Red State<\/strong>, Smith first wants to make Hit Somebody<\/strong>, a hockey film he scripted, inspired by the Warren Zevon song co-written by Mitch Ablom. He is currently pitching the film to studios.<\/p>\n
